The proposed shoreline location for a Sandy Hook memorial playground in West Haven is catching some flak from the local land trust, which must OK any waterfront development.
“If we had more room, perhaps we’d have room for it,” Violet Borneman of the West Haven Land Trust told WTNH. “But as it stands now, I think it’s a lovely place to be.”
The Sandy Ground Project to date has built 18 playgrounds in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook School shooting, constructed in communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
The one proposed for West Haven – near the Savin Rock boardwalk – would be in memory of 6-year-old Charlotte Bacon, who visited the city’s shoreline with family.
