The Jessica Rekos Foundation announces that between May 4 and May 10 it will be participating in several activities to benefit organizations that best represent the spirit of the Sandy Hook first grader who was killed in the mass shooting on Dec. 14, 2012. Rekos, whose eighth birthday is May 10, was one of 20 first-graders and six faculty members to be killed that day.
The week will begin with “Pony Rides for a Purpose” at the 2nd Company Governor’s Horse Guard on Sunday from 11 a.m . until 4 p.m. The event will include crafts, entertainment and a raffle. Admission is $10 per child with all the proceeds to benefit The Jessica Rekos Foundation.
On May 9-10, friends and family will run in the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay from Hull to Provincetown.
Cape Cod was one of Jessica’s favorite spots and “Team Jessica Rekos” will for the second year run the length of the Cape in her honor.
In memory of Jessica, the foundation has: provided year-long horseback riding scholarships to students who would otherwise not have the opportunity; supported Whale and Dolphin Conservation’s 2013 Intership program, allowing 10 students to gain experience in WDC’s renowned living laboratory; and donated $26,000 to Newtown Public Schools for physical security for school buildings.
