NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Bentley University junior pitcher David Long, a former Brookfield High standout, pitched all 10 innings of the Falcons 5-2 victory over host Merrimack College on Thursday in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Long scattered seven hits and held Merrimack scoreless over the final seven innings. He struck out seven, including the side in order in the 10th inning.
Justin Ashworth, a product of Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 10th with an RBI single; he went 2-for-4. Fairfield Ludlowe High graduate Tom Nagy – a cousin of former Cleveland Indians pitcher Charles Nagy – went 2-for-5 for Bentley.
Long has posted a 3-3 record with a 3.51 earned-run average in 10 appearances this season, including eight starts. In 48 2/3 innings of work, he has recorded 33 strikeouts and 19 walks.
Nagy, a senior outfielder, is batting .263 with a team-best five home runs and 27 runs batted in in 137 at-bats. Ashworth, a freshman first baseman, is batting .177 in 113 at-bats.
