UPDATE – 1:40 p.m. Garfield Sanderson was ordered held on $1 million bond after his arraignment in the killing of a Bridgeport man on White Street earlier this month.
Sanderson was arrested early this morning on a warrant stemming from the May 3 incident which took the life of Jeliel Kingston, 23, of Bridgeport.
Police believe Kingston’s murder prompted a subsequent shooting in Bridgeport that did not result in injuries.
Judge Anthony Avallone scheduled a probable cause hearing in the case for June 23.
UPDATE 9 a.m. - Danbury police said Sanderson is expected to be arraigned at state Superior Court on White Street later today.
The man police believe fatally shot Bridgeport resident Jeliel Kingston outside a Danbury nightclub has been taken into custody.
Garfield Sanderson was arrested by Danbury and Bridgeport police detectives at 955 Main Street in Bridgeport, early Monday morning, and is being held on a $750,000 bond.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force assisted in the arrest, law enforcement sources said.
Two handguns were seized from the suspect’s apartment during the arrest.
Kingston, 23, of Bridgeport, was found shot to death on White Street in Danbury early on Saturday, May 3. Police sources said the killing and a shooting at a Bridgeport home last Monday are related. Police said it appears Rashad Dancy shot up the house in retaliation for his friend’s death.
Dancy, 25, of Bridgeport, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Avenue. Under Dancy’s driver’s seat, police said, they found a spent rifle cartridge that appears to match ones found outside a Shelton Street home that had been peppered with gunfire Monday morning.
Dancy was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, but police said at the time that their investigation into Kingston’s death was ongoing.
It wasn’t immediately clear this morning whether more arrests are expected in the case, or when Sanderson will be arraigned on the murder charge.
