Ridgefield voters rejected the sale of 10 acres of the Schlumberger-Doll Research Center property to Toll Brothers by 6 votes Tuesday.
The voter – 967 to 961 – means the town won’t get the $4 million Toll Brothers had offered for the land. The Board of Selectmen had backed the sale, saying the $4 million would help the town recoup the $7 million it spent to buy the 45 acre parcel in 2011.
But it also means Toll Brothers won’t use the land to build 30 luxury condominiums on the land on Sunset Lane.
Housing advocates in town, including the Ridgefield League of Women Voters, had argued that the town didn’t need more high-priced homes. Instead, they’ve argued the town need more moderately-priced home and the town should use the 10 acres for that purpose.
