Brookfield Schools Superintendent Tony Bivona’s request to have his job hearing before the Board of Education after graduation on June 21 was denied this week.
As it stands, his hearing is now scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 19 in the Brookfield High School library. Official otice of the hearing, however, has not been filed; the state Freedom of Information law requires 24 hours notice.
Bivona’s attorney, Leon Rosenblatt of West Hartford, asked for the delay because Bivona did not want the controversy surrounding his employment to in any way interfere with the graduation celebrations.
Bivona is currently on paid administrative leave. The board is considering termination of his employment contract, one that currently does not expire until June 30, 2016.
The board voted unanimously to proceed with the process of termination, which includes a formal hearing before the board, on May 14. Formal charges against Bivona allege financial management, and lack of proper leadership related to budgetary and financial matters in his office.
