NEW MILFORD — There will be no Loaves & Fishes Hospitality House at 25 Bridge St in New Milford.

Zoning Commission Chairman Bill Taylor is having a resolution of disapproval written with a formal vote against the application to be taken June 24.

“I’ve struggled with this. But I don’t see how we can approve this application with it not meeting many regulations and the safety issues given the scope of what they propose,” Taylor said Tuesday.

“Obviously we’re really disappointed,” said Lisa Martin, Loaves & Fishes president. “Disappointed but not surprised. We’ll continue to serve the neediest people in our community. For the time, we’ll remain in the Richmond Citizen Center.”

Sarah Straub, owner of the 25 Bridge St parcel, said Wednesday that she is “more than disappointed with the Zoning Commission.

“Where is the compassion?” Straub asked. “I will continue to support Loaves & Fishes in my name late husband’s name. Danny embraced this community. He would have been behind this endeavor wholeheartedly. This comes from the heart.”

Zoners concerns on the 25 Bridge St application were based primarily on lot size. The proposed two-story building with its 2,259-square-foot footprint would have sat on a 0.44 acre parcel behind a present four-family house.
