BREWSTER, N.Y. — A classic car show to honor the memory of a 47-year-old Purdys man who was killed while walking along Route 22 last year will be held on Sunday, June 29 at Temple Beth Elohim.
The First Annual Bill Geller Memorial Car Show will be open to spectators from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. The temple is located at 31 Mount Ebo Road North in Brewster.
Geller was a talented graphic artist with a love for classic cars, according to his sisters, Janet Geller and Caryn Kaminsky, who are organizing the event.
He was killed on Feb. 15, 2013 on his way home from the grocery store in Goldens Bridge, where he’d gone to pick up dog food. Geller left his keys in the car, and after the cab he called failed to show up, he decided to walk and was struck by a car driven by an 88-year-old Somers man.
In addition to his sisters, he left a wife and 14-year-old son.
Geller enjoyed driving the orange, 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia that he restored and meticulously maintained, his sisters said.
The car show is intended to carry on his legacy, and will include live bands, food vendors and trophies for winning entrants.
Pre-registration for car show entrants will be $10 until June 23 and $12 on the day of the show.
Admission is free for spectators and all proceeds will benefit Temple Beth Elohim.
