Buck gives Danbury Hospital an addition $20 million

Western Connecticut Health Network announced Friday that Peter Buck  the founder of the Subway chain of sandwich shops  will give the network an addition $20 million to support the construction of the new $150 million Tower addition at Danbury Hospital

On Thursday, the network announced that Buck was giving the hospital $10 million for the new building, which will be dedicated Friday.

In thanks, the hospital has named the new addition the Peter and Carmen Lúcia Buck Pavilion in honor of Buck and his late wife.

On Friday, the hospital announced Buck would add an addition $20 million to his gift.

That money was  a challenge grant, based on the network raising $50 million for the new addition. In all, the network announced Friday, it raised $71 million through nearly 8,000 donations.

The new 316,000  square foot, 11 story  addition includes-the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Emergency Department, which will double the size of the hospital’s existing emergency department; a state-of-the-art, 30-bed critical care uni and a  35-bed medical/surgical patient-care floor.
