Police in Carmel, N.Y., are investigating the Monday evening robbery of a Putnam County National Bank branch on Route 6.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s office said a roughly 30-year-old white man standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build entered the bank in the Putnam Plaza Shopping Center at about 6 p.m. Monday.
The man approached a teller, handed over a note demanding money and warning that he had a hand gun and “would use it if necessary,” a press release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s office said. No weapon was ever shown in the robbery.
The teller then handed the robber an unspecified amount of cash and he fled on foot. An ensuing search that called on Carmel police K-9 units and a New York State Police aviation unit as well as the FBI failed to locate the suspect.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation at (845) 225-8060.
