UPDATE: Sunday 2 p.m.: Chestnutland Road has reopened.
NEW MILFORD — Chestnutland Road (Route 109) is closed Sunday until a downed utility pole can be replaced.
The road was closed Saturday night following a one car crash. Cody Shears, 28, of Litchfield Road, New Milford is facing charges related to the crash including evading responsibility for leaving the scene of the crash before police arrived, according to the police report.
Shears’ Subaru was northbound on Chestnutland Road when it went off the road, into the woods and stuck a utility pole, breaking the pole, police said. Shears fled the scene but was later located by police.
The road remained closed Sunday morning until the pole could be replaced.
Shears was charged with traveling too fast for road conditions, failure to drive in the proper lane and evading responsibility. He was released on a written promise to appear in Superior Court in Bantam on July 21.
