The Connecticut Weather Center says severe weather watches are still in effect for Fairfield County, as a cold front comes in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning causing greater thunderstorms.

Storms on Monday brought in a total of 1.7 inches of rain in the Danbury area, said Bill Jacquemin of The Connecticut Weather Center. Within just 30 minutes, 1.18 inches of rain fell in the area.

Jacquemin said this is typical of tropical rain systems, and estimates another 1 to 2 inches of rain for Tuesday. The amount of rainfall from Monday to Wednesday will amount to a month’s worth of rain for Connecticut.

Depending on where each storm lands there is a big potential for flooding in streams and low laying areas. The humid unstable air will cause pouring rain, which Jacquemin says will cause the most problems for the area.

“The lower part of Lake Avenue in Danbury tends to flood, as well as Newtown Road,” Jaquemin said.

However, he says there is not a big chance for a tornado warning. Lighting will always be a threat along with gusting winds, but these types of conditions are not conducive for tornadoes.
