Federal funds in the amount of $60,878.74 has been received for a joint project between New Milford and Brookfield police departments.
The money will fund a program, Electronic Citation for local Law Enforcement. the program is anticipated to go into effect within 60 days from Aug. 5. Once begun, officers will no longer manually write tickets in the police cruisers.
The vehicle and driver information entered into department computers will automatically fill out and generate a ticket which will be printed on heat-sensitive paper in the officer’s police car.
New Milford is receiving $34,683.44 and Brookfield will receive $26,195.30.
Efficiency and accuracy is anticipated to be dramatically affected. the E-Citation will be forwarded electronically to the Centralized Infractions Bureau. Except for the copy given to the vehicle’s driver, there will no longer be a paper copy of the ticket that now requires department records clerks to send copies of the tickets to the CIB.
