The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting concerning the proposed Bethel railroad station parking lot expansion on September 4.

The purpose of the lot expansion is to keep up with parking demand due to increased use on the Metro North Danbury branch.

The parking lot will be expanded on the north side of the existing parking lot, said DOT. Milling, new sidewalk ramps, landscaped islands and modification of the drainage and lighting are planned to be added during construction.

Construction is planned to begin in 2016 based on the availability of funding. According to the DOT the estimated cost for this project is approximately $2 million, which will be payed for with state funds.

Plans for the parking lot will be on display for public review at the meeting. Plans are also available for review at the town clerk’s office.
