BRIDGEWATER — A woman in her 70s remained on life support Thursday after collapsing from her horse while taking part in a coyote hunt in Bridgewater.

Rosalee Brainard, of West Hartford, was taking part in the hunt and riding to the back of the horse pack, according to the field master Bill Stuart, of Fairfield County Hounds.

“The riders ahead looked back and she was off of her horse on the ground,” Stuart said. “It wasn’t like she was thrown.”

Stuart, who believed Brainard had died, reported that initially. Then he heard she was on life support Thursday afternoon.

Stuart said emergency responders from the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department did an “outstanding job” of reaching Brainard and getting her to the ambulance, coming in with an all-terain  vehicle.

Trooper Kick from State Police Troop A in Southbury said troopers assisted in the medical response.

“There was nothing suspicious. With so many witnesses it was clear she just fell to the ground,” Kick said. “She was transported by ambulance to the hospital.”
