A phone scam involving alleged Connecticut Light & Power officials has struck Brookfield.
The owner of Rickyl’s Brookfield Luncheonette, received a call Friday from a man saying he was from CL&P and that if he didn’t pay his monthly electric bill, the company would shut his power off.
The “CL&P official” told the owner to call another number and give his billing information before he ran out of time. However, he quickly caught on to the scam and called CL&P to check his account.
CL&P said he had no bills due and that it was likely a scam that has been getting people across the state.
According to CL&P, if a customer was scheduled for disconnection because of nonpayment, they would receive written notice along with steps on how to maintain their service.
If you have received a call like this call the local authorities and CL&P to check your payment status.
