WestConn Receives Bomb Threat

Paul Steinmetz, a spokesperson for the university, confirms that the four buildings affected, University Hall, Haas Library, Newbury Hall and the Student Center, have been cleared and deemed safe by state police. The buildings have been declared safe to return to.

UPDATE. 2:59 p.m.

Several buildings at  Western Connecticut State University’s midtown  campus were evacuated Friday afternoon after the school’s webmaster received an email stating that bombs were planted in four buildings on midtown campus.

Paul Steinmetz, a spokesperson for the university, the university immediately evacuated University Hall, Haas Library, Newbury Hall, and the Student Center.

“We don’t believe students are in danger, but are taking the threat seriously,” Steinmetz said.

As a precaution, bomb-sniffing police dogs were dispatched to the university to sniff for bombs.

Steinmetz said the email come from a tor. com, suggesting that it came from Russia and wasn’t criminal in nature.

University officials are holding a press conference at 3 p.m.

Western Connecticut State University has confirmed on its Twitter account that several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution to what it is calling a “developing emergency situation” on its midtown campus.

Unconfirmed reports cite a possible bomb threat.
