A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured early Wednesday morning after jumping from the fourth floor of the Danbury Hospital parking garage, police said.

The teen was treated at Danbury Hospital and transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

Danbury High School officials alerted police shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday after students received text messages from the girl threatening to kill herself, police said.

After officers searched the girl’s home, they found her standing on the ledge of the hospital parking garage, police said. As officers tried to talk to the girl, she jumped from the ledge, police said.

The teen sustained multiple fractures when she hit a tree as she fell.

The incident closed Locust Avenue in front of hospital for over an hour as police and ambulances helped the girl.
