BETHEL — A broken water sprinkler pipe in the first floor ceiling at Bethel Library was quickly discovered Sunday and water damage to the first floor was minor, according to First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker.
Stony Hill Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at the libraryat 189 Greenwood Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. By 2:45 p.m. the broken pipe had been identified.
“The good news is that when water pressure drops from such a break, the fire alarm goes off,” Knickerbocker said. “There was some water damage on an area of carpet and five to six ceiling tiles will have to be replaced. But not books or other materials were damaged.”
