Ridgefield police have launched an investigation into hazing incidents at the high school involving several athletic school members.
Police said they have started a criminal investigation into hazing incidents that took place on Oct. 17.
“After being made aware of the incidents we are looking into it,” said Ridgefield Police Capt. Jeff Kreitz.
School Principal Stacey Gross said on Monday the hazing involved a small number of athletes and non athletes and happened on
Wednesday evening into Thursday morning off school campus during Spirit Week, a series of themed days held at the school to boost and express school pride.
“We launched an investigation into the matter and it has been dealt with firmly and swiftly,” said Gross.
Gross would not say what sport team members were involved in the incidents or if any of the students involved were suspended from school or barred from playing sports.
The school’s athletic director could not be reached for comment on Monday.
Two students said the hazing involved two separate incidents with older students giving alcohol and drugs to younger students.
The Ridgefield hazing incident comes after seven football players at Sayreville High War Memorial High School were arrested in a hazing incident in September involving sex crimes against freshman team members.
