NEW MILFORD – A Medication Drop Box is now in service at the New Milford Police Department for disposal of unwanted household pharmaceuticals.
Over the counter medications, prescription medicine, medical samples, household pet medications and medical lotions and ointments can all be deposited in the drop box for disposal.
“The drop boxes are community tools used in many towns,” said Kevin Kwas, program manager at The New Milford Youth Agency, “that get unused prescription drugs out of the public realm.”
Kwas noted that unused prescription narcotics are often “gateway drugs” for young adolescents, leading to illegal drug use.
“Getting these drugs out of the community is our goal,” said Kwas, who sits on the New Milford Substance Abuse Council.
