A mercury spill at Pomperaugh High School has resulted in the evacuation of the school and a student being taken to the hospital.
The Southbury Fire Department has confirmed that there is a small mercury spill in one of the classrooms at the school. The incident has been contained to one classroom.
A student has been taken to the hospital due to their exposure to the spill. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is at the school investigating.
While the mercury spill is small, special crews will come in to clean up the mercury.
Students were evacuated when the fire alarm went off, they are currently in the school gymnasium.
