UPDATE: 1:00 PM
Warren Jefferson, 49, of Pennsylvania was killed when his truck hit the rear of another tractor trailer sitting in heavy traffic right before Exit 11, state police said.
Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, John Krupskas, 65, also of Pennsylvania, was taken to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries.
UPDATE: 10:20 AM
All lanes have been reopened as of 10:13 a.m. this morning. The trucks and debris have been removed. Traffic is moving now and Exit 10 has cleared of any back ups.
A dog was also killed in the crash. No information on the identity of the deceased driver.

Eastbound I-84 remains closed in Newtown.
Traffic is backed up to Route 7 in Danbury.
Local streets in Newtown are jammed, including Route 25.
One person was killed in the trash that involved two tractor-trailers.
Because it’s a fatal, the investigation of the crash is taking longer.

Traffic is flowing smoothly in westbound lanes.
UPDATE: 8:31 a.m
The two tractor trailer accident has turned out to be fatal. One driver has been killed in the collision earlier this morning, said Lt. Paul Vance, spokesman for the state police. No information on the driver has been released.
State police are attempting to open one lane, however they are not sure if the cargo can be moved.
“We are taking it one step at a time,” Vance said.
Traffic has backed up on the Eastbound lane all the way to Exit 6.
UPDATE: 8:08 a.m.
A warning to Newtown residents, schools in the area will not have a delayed start Friday morning, even though the center of town is in gridlock.
State police are still investigating on the highway.

The build of stop and go traffic on I-84.
The detour state police have set up to go through Sandy Hook on Route 34 has serious delays as well as on the highway.
Crews are still working on cleaning the debris from the road. No word on when I-84 Eastbound will be open, drivers plan for lots of delays on your morning commute.

I-84 in Newtown will be a mess this morning as an accident between two tractor trailers in a construction zone has closed all Eastbound lanes.
The accident happened early Friday morning, two tractor trailers collided causing a cargo spill, police said. The clean up will take most of the morning commute to do.

Massive delays on I-84 Eastbound. Department of Transportation.
The highway is closed between Exits 10 and 11. There is a detour set up in the area, however overnight construction along the Rochabeau Bridge will also cause additional delays. Drivers should avoid the area because traffic is building.
One injury has been reported, police said.
