Update:2:30: Threat called into St. Rose of Lima parish school deemed to be no threat. Lock-in for the two other public schools, Hawley Elementary and Newtown Middle School have been lifted. All students and staff at all three institutions are safe and secure.
At 1:44 p.m., Newtown Schools Superintendent Joseph Erardi announced a lock-in open status for both Hawley Elementary School and Newtown Middle School due to a called-in threat to the St. Rose of Lima private school on Church Hill Road.
The procedure allows the schools to continue operating in typical fashion, with dismissal to be as ususal, but an extra armed police officer has been placed at the entrance to the driveways and no one is allowed to enter the buildings.
This procedure comes on the heels of a lock-in at Newtown High School on Monday.
Erardi said he will update parents soon.
