Update 4:55 p.m.

A two car accident earlier Wednesday afternoon has sent seven people to the hospital, two of which were children, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened when a Toyota sedan driving Eastbound on Route 6 tried to turn left onto Route 22 and was hit by a Toyota minivan driving Westbound.

In the minivan was a 2-month-old, which police say was ejected from the car seat during the crash, but not the car. The other child, 4, was in the sedan.

A 60-year-old woman in the sedan was in critical condition and was airlifted by LifeNet helicopter to Westchester Medical Center. The other six people involved were transported to Danbury Hospital.

The accident caused the closure of Route 6 in both directions and the Route 22 off ramp. The sheriff’s office will continue investigating.
