A woman and a 6-year-old boy were sent to the hospital Wednesday night after they were hit by a car on Main Street in Danbury.

Estelle Schneider, 68, of Danbury hit Cindy Espinal, 25, of Danbury and the boy with her 1994 Oldsmobile as the two crossed the intersection of Main and Robinson, police said.

A 4-year-old girl was with Espinal and the boy, but was not hit, police said. Espinal and the two children were walking on the crosswalk when they were hit.

Schneider told police that she didn’t see anyone at the crosswalk  and pulled over when she realized what happened.

Espinal, the boy and Schnieder were taken to Danbury Hospital. No information has been released about the types of injuries they sustained, but a hospital spokeswoman said all three were released Wednesday night.

Both southbound lanes of Main Street were shut down for more than a half hour as a result of the incident and several bystanders were distraught after learning about the injured pedestrians.

Schneider was found to be at fault for the accident and was given an infraction for failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian at a crosswalk, police said.
