SHERMAN – A Christmas cross has shined for years on the silo at Happy Acres Farm but this year town officials have decided the cross cannot be lit.
The farm is now town-owned and officials believe it would be inappropriate to send a religious message by lighting the cross.
Some residents in the town are outraged and have erected crosses on the roofs of their houses which they have lit for the Christmas holiday.
“People all over town have started putting up their own crosses,” said Gary Albert. “I’ll bet at this time there must be upwards of 25 to 30 including my house.”
Albert asks how the town can put up a Christmas tree and decorations at Mallory Town Hall while not lighting the cross at Happy Acres.
