RIDGEFIELD – It’s as though Tuesday was called off.

In downtown Ridgefield there were no cars parked in front of the Main Street shops at noon because no more than a couple of the shops were open.

There was a 5-to-1 ratio of plow trucks to passenger cars, even as the sun came out.

The roads were still mostly white with snow and the sidewalks mostly unshoveled.

Only a few people were out and about.

John Shelden was coming out of the CVS with two shovels and a sled. There would be plenty of time to shovel and take his son and his two friends sledding, he said.

“My store is closed so we are off,” said Shelden, a salesperson at Honda of Danbury.

At Planet Pizza, a large pepperoni pie was just coming out of the oven and Assistant Manager Michael Drogalis was stretching the dough to make a new one.

He said he tested the roads and found them drivable.

“We have drivers coming in so if I couldn’t drive, I didn’t want them to drive,” said Drogalis. “Everyone is always supporting us so we are trying to help out when they need it.”

Ridgefield Hardware was also open, although there were more employees in the store than customers.

The malls on Route 35 heading north to Danbury were also empty.

If people were out, they were shoveling or snow-blowing.
