UPDATE 7:40 p.m. –  Emergency officials have confirmed that the parking garage at the hospital has been reopened at this time and crews have been allowed to leave the scene. No more information on the nature of the substance located at the hospital was immediately available.

Original post  – Danbury emergency officials responding to the release of hazardous materials at Danbury Hospital have called on fire crews and police officers to shut down some  entrances to the building and parking garages while the incident is being investigated.

“Anyone can leave but nobody can enter,” a dispatcher was heard telling emergency crews over the police scanner.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said he believes that the incident doesn’t appear to be  serious at this time and that emergency crews are taking every possible precaution.

According to reports on the scanner, crews with the fire department were called to the hospital at about 6:30 to respond to a spill  of an unidentified substance, possibly a gas. Numerous fire crews and police officials have responded to the scene.

The incident is at the one of the hospital parking garage, according to a dispatcher with the fire department. Crews are responding and are on scene trying to identify what the substance is, he said.  The scene is still evolving. A portion of the Hospital and the garage is closed. They have isolated the area.

More information was not immediately available.
