Danbury fire officials still haven’t determined what caused an apparent spill of hazardous materials in the Danbury Hospital parking garage Friday evening.
Fire Department crews were called to the hospital at about 6:30 p.m. after several people reported “an obnoxious odor” inside the garage, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Williams said.
Numerous fire crews and police officials responded to the scene. The garage was closed for at least an hour as emergency officials investigated the source of the odor, but they were not able to determine the nature of the substance, Williams said.
No one was injured and the odor was gone by the time emergency officials left the area, he said.
Williams noted that the windy weather Friday evening might have brought the odor into the garage.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said Friday that he believed the incident wasn’t serious but that emergency crews were taking every possible precaution.
Danbury Hospital could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday morning.
