The drawdown at Candlewood lake has begun, and will proceed gradually through the next month.
This year’s drawdown is a shallow one _ about four feet, said Church Burnham, spokesman for FirstLight Power Resources which owns the lake and hydroelectric power plant in New Milford.
Burnham said FirstLight wants to keep the lake down for a week of wreathe with the temperature falling below 32 degrees F. With luck, the cold will kill the highly invasive non-native Eurasian watermilfoil on the exposed mudflats of the lake..
Burnham said the lake must be back to its normal operating height - about 427 feet above sea level – in time for the spring fishing season in mid-April.
