Bears are out and about in our area. They are attracted to foods sources, such as bird feeders. If you don’t want to risk destruction of your bird feeders or chance encounters with hungry bears, you may want to take your feeders in at night.

Don’t think you couldn’t see bears in more densely populated Danbury – Michael Maguire spotted one recently not far from downtown.

Friday, May 17, a Southbury woman found a bear at her door.

Karen Giovannone of Indian Trail in Southbury saw this bear at her door Friday morning (May 17, 2013).

Make sure not to get between a mama bear and her cubs. Making plenty of noise – yelling, banging on pots and pans – should scare bears away.
