DANBURY – A Danbury man fled the scene of an accident Sunday after the driver of the car he hit denied an offer to fix the damage in his own auto shop, police said.

Edward Leili, 53, of Danbury, was driving west on Lake Avenue Extension at about 3:50 p.m. when he hit a vehicle that was stopped at a red light, according to the report.

The woman driving that car told police Leili got out of his car and asked her if he could pay her cash to settle the damage or fix the car at his body shop, police said. She refused both offers and said she was going to call the police.

While the woman was on the phone with a dispatcher, according to the report, Leili went back to his car, backed up and drove away. Officers located him down the road, police said.

Leili was charged with evading responsibility and following too closely. He posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 26.

Neither Leili or the woman was injured in the crash.
