DANBURY — The 17-year-old charged with murder last week in the stabbing death of a 19-year-old city man will be tried as an adult.

Emanuel Von Harris, of Danbury, on Thursday appeared in state Superior Court on White Street before Judge Andrew Roraback, who granted the prosecution’s request that Harris be transferred from the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport to the Manson Youth Institution, a high-security facility in Cheshire which houses sentenced male inmates under 21 years old.

Harris is facing one count each of murder and first-degree assault for the Dec. 7 stabbing of Luan Pitol. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Danbury police responded to the intersection of Wooster and Grand streets late the night of Dec. 7 for a report of a large fight and found Pitol and an unidentified 20-year-old man receiving medical treatment.

Pitol was later pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital. An autopsy by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that he died of a stab wound to the torso.

The 20-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Von Harris was taken into custody on Dec. 11.

Police have described the homicide as an “isolated incident.”

The death was the second homicide reported in Danbury this year. Police have said that on Sept. 29, Christian P. Williams killed his 19-month-old son in the city’s first homicide in two years.
