DANBURY – A man being chased for drug dealing is facing multiple charges after he rammed into an unmarked police cruiser on Interstate 84, Danbury police said in a news release.

Members of the department’s Special Investigations Division were conducting surveillance Tuesday in the area of Liberty Avenue and South Street in response to citizen complaints, police intelligence and past observations of illegal drug deals when they saw Erick Ortiz-Aguayo, 31, making several drug transactions, police said.

Officers then followed the suspect’s car as he left the area but he refused to stop despite the efforts of marked patrol cars that were signaling him to stop, according to the release. Ortiz-Aguayo eventually came to a stop after he rammed into an unmarked police car on eastbound I-84 near the Brookfield/Newtown line, police said.

Officers then found him in possession of illegal drugs and remnants of destroyed evidence, according to the report.

Ortiz-Aguayo was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, tampering with evidence, engaging in pursuit, driving with a suspended license and failure to obey police signal.

He’s being held in lieu of $150,000 bond.
