BETHEL — Town officials will meet Tuesday morning to recount the votes on the education budget, which appeared to have failed by three votes at this week’s referendum.
Town Clerk Lisa Bergh said the recount will take place at the municipal center at 10:30 a.m. that day.
The Board of Education’s $43.3 million request received 1,451 votes in favor and 1,454 votes against it, unofficial results showed.
State law requires a recount when the margin of victory is less than half of 1 percent of the total votes cast.
Voters rejected the $27.6 million town budget proposal by 29 votes and approved a $1.92 million capital spending package by more than 600 votes during Tuesday’s referendum.
