Two monthly cooking programs at Ridgefield’s Garden of Ideas will use seasonal crops harvested there beginning on Saturday.
“Fruits of the Garden: Basic Cooking Class” and “Garden Lunch: Feed the Body, Expand the Mind,” will be hosted by Chef Susie Buckley at the Garden of Ideas at 653 North Salem Road near Ridgefield High.
“In the first class, we’ll learn how to use greens that are available in spring, including cleaning lettuce in a way that keeps it fresh longer” Buckley said.
Future cooking topics for the classes, which run through Nov. 7, will include herbs, tomatoes, the fall harvest, soups and side dishes. Classes run from 1-2:30 p.m., and they cost $25 for the public and $22 for Community Supported Agriculture members. Children ages 8-12 are free, with a maximum of two children per family.
The Garden Lunch program is presented in collaboration with the Ridgefield Library and 109 Cheese.
From 12:30-2 p.m. on Wednesdays from May 6 until Sept. 30, members of the public can enjoy a lunch made by 109 Cheese using garden crops for $10.
