Ridgefield is the safest town in Connecticut and the fourth safest in the country, according to a SafeWise report comparing crime statistics.

The report was released Monday and is based on the most recent FBI statistics and a comparison of data on property and violent crime rates around the nation. Weston ranked 10th, Darien 13th and Newtown 23rd.

Ridgefield has not had a violent crime in recent years and has an average of three property crimes per 1,000 residents, the report shows. Property crimes are burglaries, larceny, theft and arson.

“Secluded in Southern Connecticut, this tony community with a colonial past prioritizes safety,” the report states. “The city’s police hold an annual Halloween party and have developed programs like ‘G.R.A.D.D.’ (Government of Ridgefield against Drunk Driving) in order to tackle substance abuse and other safety-related issues.”
