A Danbury native has been named the new executive director for the Danbury Police Activities League, a nonprofit that works to prevent children from turning to violence, drugs or crime.
Maura Keenan is a long-time Danbury resident who worked with the Police Activities League in the 1990s when she helped raise money to build the center on Hayestown Road.
She plans to revitalize the organization and will work with the board and volunteers to give the league’s building a facelift. More than 30 volunteers are set to paint, clean, fix and reorganize the center on May 9 and 10. Financial support and more volunteers are welcome.
This fall, Keenan plans to host a community-wide open house to showcase new programs, share information about the current programs, launch a new membership program and highlight the spruced-up center.
Keenan has a background in marketing, fundraising and organizational development. She was also a local girls basketball coach where she brought a Brookfield team to the state championship.
“We are pleased to have Maura join us and develop a strategic plan to move PAL forward. Our goal is to serve area children and Maura is the right person, at the right time to bring PAL to the next level of service. She has the experience, passion and energy to influence positive change” Board President Art Haddad said in a news release.
