Mercury can be tricky to see from Earth for ordinary folks _ because it’s so close to the sun, it’s usually near the horizon after dark.
But should you ever get glimpse, realize that you’re looking at a planet with some famous names attached to its craters.
The International Astronomical Union’s Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved new names for ten craters on Mercury. A6mong those getting a crater named after them are rock & roller John Lennon; sculptor Alexander Calder; tenor Enrico Caruso; composer Hector Belioz; writer Truman Capote; and artist James Ensor.
It’s unclear why these men made the cut and not orthers. Maybe the IAU decided they all had mercurial temperaments..
