Influenza now widespread in state

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has now said influenza in Connecticut is now “widespread” – the most severe category in the CDC classification system

The CDC published its latest flu update, for the week ending Dec. 28, on Friday

In it, Connecticut joins Massachusetts, New York,  and Pennsylvania  at the states in the Northeast with a widespread flu outbreak. In all 24 states have widespread flu..

In most seasons, flu epidemics last about six weeks.

The predominate strain this year is H1N1. It affects teenagers and younger adults.
