A formal hearing regarding two ethics complaints lodged against new Board of Education member Greg Beck, 26, a town emergency services dispatcher, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Brookfield Town Hall in Room 135.
Beck has been under fire since just after the election for a Facebook post he made that offended many in Brookfield and Newtown as it offered a flippant response about the anniversary tribute to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The post stated that his 26 Acts of Kindness would be to send boxes of ammunition to his gun enthusiast friends.
The post was taken down soon after it was made, and
Beck did issue an apology, stating he did not intend to offend or hurt anyone and was sorry that he made what he determined to be an inappropriate comment.
That, however, was not enough for a lot of parents and local political leaders who have asked for him to resign his seat on the board. Beck has steadfastly refused.
The Board of Ethics ruled unanimously that there was probable cause to proceed with a hearing on the two complaints, one from Sherri Keefe and the other from Nancy Lincoln.
The hearing is open to the public.
