DANBURY — A 23-year-old Danbury woman was charged with risk of injury to a minor Tuesday after her 4-year-old child was found walking alone on Wildman Street late Monday, police said.
Maritza Vizhco was arrested when she came to the police station in response to a note that officers left at her home the previous evening, police said.
Police said a passing motorist spotted the child walking toward White Street in subfreezing weather just after 10:20 p.m. and waited with the child until police arrived.
Officers determined where the child lived and finding no one, home, left a note for the mother asking her to call police. Police then contacted the Department of Children and Families. A relative was located and the child was turned over to the family member, police said.
Vizhco called about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and was charged when she arrived at the police department at 2 p.m., police said.
