Members of the Newtown school board were expected to conduct a site visit in Southing today to determine whether or not they will soon vote to hire their current top candidate, Southington Schools Superintendent Joseph Erardi Jr.
Erardi has been Southington’s superintendent for seven years, and under his leadership the district has been hailed for many innovative programs and academic accomplishments.
Newtown started its formal search back in May after the resignation of former Superintendent Janet Robinson who accepted a new position in Stratford. The district since then has been led by Interim Schools Superintendent John Reed, a familiar face in the district as he previously served for 20 years in that role prior to retirement in 2002. He offered to step forward to assist the district in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
The Newtown board has kept confidential much of its process to protect applicants, but once the site visit is completed and if an offer is extended the board will be required to vote on an appointment in public session.
