With the C.H. Booth Library in Newtown closed for repairs after suffering water damage within the last few weeks, the community is coming forward to offer library patrons alternatives until the Booth Library reopens.
All Newtown residents are welcome to use other public libraries in the area. Connecticut has had reciprocal borrowing privileges since 1976. The program, known as ConnectiCard, allows residents of any town to use the library in any other town within the state.
Also, the Newtown VFW at Freedom Defenders Way (formerly 18 Tinkerfield Road) is open to the public, with free Wi-Fi available.
At their January meeting, the VFW membership agreed they need to help out however they can.
“The VFW is always open to the public,” Newtown Post 308 Commander James Rebman said. “Now more than ever, Newtown residents should know that they are welcome to come in at any time and use our Wi-Fi and facilities.”
The VFW is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition to Wi-Fi, they have four large-screen TVs, an upstairs and downstairs area with tables, chairs and restrooms. A canteen is also on premises for beverages, soft drinks, coffee, etc.
