As it is every year I can recall as a resident for more than two decades, the All-School Musical of “Cats” scheduled for the last two weekends in March is sure to be a no-miss spectacular.
For my final year as a parent attending the performances of my daughters’ friends, I cannot wait to buy my tickets to see what these students, under the very impressive tutelage of Musical Director Bob Keck, choreographer Debbie Maguire and producer Steve Donahue, pull off. I know I am amazed every year, but this one is sure to be a real thrill.
And I have to be honest. As much of a theater lover as I am, community theater my particular favorite, I have never seen a formal production of “Cats.” Love the music, seen many clips, but never seen the show in its entirety. What I know is New Milford High. And their performances are always at a level far above what some might expect from high school kids.
So Andrew Lloyd Webber might want to buy himself a ticket just to see what these kids do with his 1982 Broadway production; it ran for 18 years on Broadway.
The lyrics for the show are based on T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.”
The theme song, “Memory,” is not one anyone will soon forget. I can hear Barbra Streisand singing it now.
For $10, you can’t beat this show. So order now. The performances are March 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. in the New Milford High theater. Matiness will be offered on March 23 and March 29 at 2 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting the high school box office Mondays through Fridays from 2:15 to 4 p.m. and Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are also available by calling 860-350-6647 ext. 1552.
