Mother Nature has interfered a bit with Newtown Interim
Schools Superintendent John Reed’s plans to present the 2014-15 budget.
But it’s on for tonight: 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall at Newtown High School.
Reed will be presenting a budget based on collaboration with all of the various school administrators as well as directions from the school board on priorities for the coming year. Reed and board members have stated that it will be important to ensure that the community understands the budget request so they can support it when it comes time to cast a vote.
Again, this is a start of an involved process that will include the Board of Finance, the Legislative Council, and finally, the voters.
Based on a charter revision a year ago, the town and school budgets are voted on separately at the referendum in April. One can pass or fail without impact on the other.
The News-Times will provide full coverage of the budge proposal online and in print. Watch for it.
