NEW MILFORD – Petitions circulated by present Democratic Town Committee chairman John Lillis more than achieved garnering the required signatures to primary.
Lillis and 23 other present DTC members petitioned for a March 4 primary after being ousted from office at the Jan. 9 Democratic caucus.
A total of 302 signatures were collected, well over the 213, or 5 percent of registered Democrats, signatures required.
“I’m happy about this response,” Lillis said Saturday. “It will be a good that every registered Democrat in town will have the opportunity to vote on this decision.”
At the Jan. 9 caucus, the New Milford Democrats for Change slate of 35 candidates won the election. With that win, 12 present DTC members remained, joining 23 new faces.
“This primary is all about winning elections, being competitive and restoring a true two-party system in New Milford,” said Andy Grossman, spokesman for New Milford Democrats for Change.
The primary vote will be taken March 4 at polls in New Milford.
