Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut’s executive officer Lisa Scails has been appointed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to serve on the recently created Connecticut Arts Council.
The council, which is overseen by the state Department of Economic and Community Development, is charged with raising and disbursing funds from private sources “to encourage, participation in, and promotion, development, acceptance and appreciation of artistic and cultural activities.”
Scails said she welcomes the opportunity to extend the alliance’s belief that the arts can spur economic growth.
“The creation of a Connecticut Arts Council represents the commitment of Connecticut’s citizenry and its elected officials to the importance – and relevance – of arts and culture in the eyes of the public, whether in their neighborhoods or the world at large,” she said. ”It’s a call for forward thinking and new challenges.”
