The state Department of Transportation has distributed nearly 5,000 tons of salt to 42 cities and towns in Connecticut this week to replenish diminishing supplies caused by the unusual winter season.

Danbury, Redding, Roxbury and Washington were among those towns receiving road salt.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced the relief package, prepared by the DOT, last Friday.

Danbury has received 200 tons of salt. With Redding, Roxbury and Washington each receiving 100 tons of salt.

The DOT currently has adequate supplies of road salt, Malloy announced. An additional 45,000 tons of salt is to be delivered this weekend to the Port of New Haven by International Salt.
